This private internal guide is for Darling Library Staff reference. These library policies inform the practices of the Darling Library of Hope International University.

About HIU Students

HIU students include:

  • Traditional Undergraduates (TUG)
  • Online Undergraduates (OUG) - attend HIU classes online
  • Graduate (GRAD) - may attend online or on campus

WMS Patron Type: Student

Student Patron Type Definition

"Student" status is determined by Campus Management.

The following programs qualify for "Student" status in WMS:

  • Traditional Undergraduates
  • Online Undergraduates*
  • Graduate 
    • On campus
    • Online*

*While online students are not likely to borrow books from the Darling Library, those that do will be given Student status in WMS.

WMS Privileges

  • Students may check out up to 20 books at a time. Current HIU Student ID is required.**
  • Students may activate their Patron Accounts to place books on hold, renew items twice online, and check their patron records.
  • Students may request Interlibrary Loans. (Online patrons are limited to electronic resources.)

Registration in WMS

New Traditional Undergraduates (TUG) and Graduate (GRAD) students are automatically batch uploaded into WMS at the beginning of each new semester. Those that are not in the system should complete a  blue New Patron slip and be reported to a Librarian for further investigation.

Acceptable Identification: Current HIU Student ID card

Network Accounts

Network Accounts

Network accounts are maintained by the Information Technology Department and are associated with HIU email addresses. If a user has trouble with their login they should contact Information Technology (ext. 2607.) NOTE: This is not the same login used for WMS.

Login for:

  • Information Commons computers
  • Wireless network (HIU and Library)
  • Research Databases (remote access)
  • Office computers (staff and faculty)

Remote Access

Remote access to research databases is restricted to those with HIU network accounts.

Remote access to research databases is provided to:

  • Students
  • Staff
  • Faculty
  • Dorm Residents
  • SALT students
  • Dongseo/ESL students
