Research Sources and How To Use Them

This guide goes over a number of our licensed resources and how to use them.

What is Google Scholar?

We all recognize Google as a general search engine that indexes public websites. However, Google also provides other apps and services that can assist academic research and learning.

One tool that Google created that might advance your research is Google Scholar. It uses the familiar Google approach to specifically search academic journals for phrases, titles, or authors. Please be aware that there are limitations. But you can extend its reach beyond the free resources found in a general Google Scholar search by connecting it to the subscription digital resources held by the Darling Library at Hope International University.

NOTE: This does NOT replace the precision search options found with our Discovery Service and databases, but it is an easy intuitive basic search option. Please visit our website (http://library.hiu.edu/) for more details and direct links.
