Library Use Policies - ALL IN LIBRARY POLICIES

This private internal guide is for Darling Library Staff reference. Library Use Policies govern the eligibility for granting library privileges.

THIS GUIDE IS PRIVATE

THIS GUIDE IS PRIVATE. Please bear this in mind when editing, mapping, or copying boxes or pages from this guide to populate other guides such as the (public) Handbook for Patorns and the (private) Student Library Assistant training LibGuides.

Purpose of this Guide

The Darling Library Use Policies govern the eligibility for access to Darling Library resources.

This guide spells out who may use what library resources, and under what conditions.

Patron types are based on their association with the University and various restrictions and agreements determine eligibility and method of access. For instance, online databases are restricted by vendor license agreements and network access is governed by the HIU Information Systems Department.

This guide seeks to describe the different library privileges afforded to each patron type.

Library Resources covered in this guide:

  • WMS
    • borrowing privileges
    • holds
    • renewals
    • Interlibrary Loans
  • Information Commons
  • Wireless Network
  • Remote access to Research Databases

GENERAL LIBRARY USE POLICIES

The Library staff has the authority to revoke privileges for infractions of any policy.

Priority is given to Hope International University students, faculty and staff for library use, borrowing privileges, and Information Commons (IC) computer use.

The Library Wireless and HIU network is governed by Information Systems Department policies.

All Library user Groups must have a current record in WMS OR be approved by a librarian before being granted access to any networked resources. See Group Definitions and Acceptable Identification, below.
