Bible Commentaries

A guide for choosing a Biblical commentary.

Historical commentaries focus on the historical context of the documents or events that caused the creation of the document, the purpose(s) of the document, and the significance of the document as a historical source. Some of these commentary series are whole bible, and others are just New Testament. To find the Old Testament series, just replace "New" with "Old" in the search bod of the catalog.

Rhetoric is the study of how writers and speakers use words to influence an audience. A rhetorical analysis breaks a work of non-fiction into parts and then explains how the parts work together to create a certain effect—whether to persuade, entertain or inform.
