Sport Psychology

AASP is the premier association that ensures every performer has the resources to strengthen their inner edge through the advancement and application of excellence in mental performance and mental health. To do that we cultivate an inclusive field of Certified Mental Performance Consultants® (CMPCs), licensed mental health professionals, educators, and researchers. Because when we research, train, and serve performers’ complete mental needs, we elevate their ability to perform and thrive.

Its mission is to advance practice, education and training standards in the field of applied sport psychology as well as provide licensed psychologists the opportunity to achieve board certification in sport psychology. ABSP also engages in advocacy for licensed psychologists’ legal rights in the context of title usage and scope of practice laws that continue to be violated by non-licensed practitioners who practice sport psychology.

The Clinical/Counseling Sport Psychology Association (CCSPA) was formed as the field of clinical and counseling sport psychology has continued to evolve, presenting unique challenges and ambiguity within and about the profession. As an organization we hope to add clarity to areas often met with confusion and uncertainty. To this end we seek to establish best practices in the mental health and performance psychology of athletes, inform and educate administrators, invested organizations, and the general public about the unique nature of this part of the field, and to distinguish us as a subspecialty of the field of psychology and even sport psychology.

The International Society of Sport Psychology (ISSP) is a multidisciplinary society devoted to promoting research, practice, and development in sport psychology throughout the world. The Society endeavors to foster peace and understanding among people from all countries. Members of the Society include researchers, psychologists, educators, coaches, administrators, students, and athletes interested in sports psychology.

The North American Society for the Psychology of Sport and Physical Activity is a multidisciplinary association of scholars from the behavioral sciences and related professions. The Society functions to:
- Develop and advance the scientific study of human behavior when individuals are engaged in sport and physical activity
- Facilitate the dissemination of information
- Improve the quality of research and teaching in the psychology of sport, motor development, and motor learning and control
